Dear readers, I must apologize! I wrote this blog quite some time ago, so I’ve kinda forgotten what the situation was, why the idiot bus driver deserves the third Obtuse Award…
Let me see if I can revive that memory!
For the first two Obtuse Awards, click this word.
The Bus Driver gets the Third Obtuse Award because he totally ignored me!
First: I always hit the “accessible button” to alert the driver I want off, and that they need to open the ramp.
Having done that, I maneuver my power chair thru a crowded front area, people struck dumb as I hurtled towards them; oh quick jump to the side!
I’m now toeing the ubiquitous yellow “do not cross” line, inches from the drivers seat. People are still getting off the bus’ other two doors.
I look up at the driver, who’s sunglassed eyes might or might not notice I’m there. I’m pretty sure it’s the latter, because I noticed he’s looking left, as if the bus has vomited enough, and he can go to the next stops. But…
I’m Right Fucking There! Hello!
How could he NOT see me? I’m quite obvious!
So, I rap on the plexiglass and yell ”Hey, I want to get off!”
He might have looked startled, but he did look down, saw me for the first time, it would seem!
He points vaguely into the distance, which I translate into “I will drop you off at the next stop.” No way! I verbalize “Here, now!” He relented, opened the door, unfolded the ramp, and I zoomed off!
Could it be that the mirror that drivers use to monitor exiting passengers is angled so that the area close to the driver is a blind spot? Maybe that’s why he didn’t see me? But then why didn’t the Accessible Ramp Request indicator flash? Unknown.
I better end this blog, my keyboard battery light is flashing, time to recharge!
Thanks for reading!
