Mastering a skill Daily Prompt

If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be and why?

As a DeafBlind person with ataxia, you might think I’d want to cure my disabilities; I would master perfect hearing, 20/20 vision, I’d master walking in a straight line, without fear of falling. You’d think I’d like to master the simple skill of standing up from a chair without crashing into the table. You might think I’d like to master drinking or eating without an ataxic reaction that makes me cough up today’s lunch special. You might think I’d like to master loquacious speech so that I can sell Ice Cream bars to penguins (ataxia affects speech ya know). I think you got the picture…

Ataxia sucks, sure… but…

…ataxia is also incurable, so, I’m kinda stuck with it. I’ve grown fond of my many hijinks and funny falls… I wouldn’t change a thing!

So, what skill would I master? I’m a Harry Potter fans, and there’s a neat little trick that I’d love to master; the Accio spell. Saying Accio coffee with a flick of a wand would bring my coffee zooming across the room!

You ask, ‘why?’ Can’t you figure it out?

Without Accio, I’d have to get up, walk across the room, pick up the coffee cup, walk back to my desk. Yet, I’ve got ataxia, my body coordination is the royal shits, I’d fall over, bang my head, I’d trip, drip the java, slop more likely…

So, Accio would be the skill I’d love to master, it would be a no-brainer!

Thanks for reading!
