Hi there,
I am going to vent here…
As you may or may not know, I am writing a novel (actually I have three in literacy limbo right now), I’ve been writing, twiddling, on the current novel, let’s call it Pinchback, for over three years…
I had a really rough draft, and was proceeding to clean up that draft.
Late in December, I did a bit of work on the novel… I liked how it flowed.
Then, yesterday, I was going to do some work on it! I was determined to get this done!
So, I opened Notes, opened the document, and proceeded to scroll down to where I left off a while ago.
I needed to invert the colours of the screen; I cannot see the little icons that Apple has on the top bar: orange on white…
(Yes, I’ve contacted Apple about this inaccessibility issue; their solution is Invert the screen colours…)
When I did invert, I had to corner-flick, select accessibility feature, and then close the control centre.
With everything white on black, the orange icons became blue; perfect.
I clicked on the Aa icon, hoping to change the font size of the document, yet somehow a WHOLE 8 chapters vanished!
It took me five minutes to figure out some text was missing, then another 10 minutes to search for it…
Notes UNDO command only goes back ONCE!
When I try to select a block of text, but not the whole thing, a slow process and much frustration occurs. Yet, Notes selected a huge breadth of text instantly, and deleted it, without my apparent approval or, fuck, awareness!
I spent the next 20 minutes searching for the missing block of text, checking other devices, nope, it vanished!
(I thought of pasting after I had closed the iPad in frustration!)
Now, thanks to Notes, 25 months of hard work was lost!
Luckily, I had a backup, abet unsaved since March last year, of Pinchback. Today I spent two hours printing, coordinating, and prepping the documents.
And, I moved it to Apple Pages… which I avoided because the app did not, when I used it before, allow zoom to follow keyboard focus… NOW, it does! That is a good improvement!
Thank you for listening to my rant!
Have a good day!
