Craig’s WD #23

Today’s word of the day is…

Cynosure

Oh my, there seems to be a word for everything!

This noun can refer to a person or thing that is the centre of attention!

There are so many examples that I can think of:

I could say, yesterday, that Justin Trudeau was an unhappy cynosure… that’s all the news was reporting, his resignation as Prime Minister of Canada.

You could probably recall an event in your life when you were holding the centre stage, everyone was looking at you for guidance, for inspiration;
I could say that I was the cynosure at my workshop on Empowering DeafBlind Individuals at the World Federation of the DeafBlind conference in Auckland, NZ, in October of 2001. It was a packed room, and people were sharing stories of oppression, of overcoming odds… I could say they came to hear me extol about Self-worth, self-importance, but I won’t. I was not the cynosure of that workshop, the audience was!

So, the next time you seem to be at the centre of everyone’s attention, either positive or negative, you now know there is a word for that! Cynosure!

Have a great day!
