Many municipalities, towns cities et al are creating, or have created, bike lanes.
These are designed for cyclists; so they can safely cycle without fear of being run over by crazy drivers.
In my neighbourhood, there are a few streets with bike lanes on both sides of the street, with white stanchions, white curbs and white bike signs painted onto the roadways.
Everything says: this is a Cyclist Lane, for cyclists cycling somewhere.
While it is not expected, cyclists should ride with traffic, going against traffic, inside the bike lanes, is perfectly fine.
With money, time and planning by city municipalities being invested into Bike Lanes; why do some people ignore them and ride on sidewalks?
Case in point:
Recently, I was walking my dog, which means she was walking, I was operating my power chair. We were strolling eastward, the dog had grass, shrubs, to sniff, on the left, westbound traffic was on the right. The dog had space to sniff.
So, we are minding our business, when suddenly an idiot on two wheels zooms past us, veering onto the grass, startling my dog!
This guy was probably behind us for a while, I’m pretty sure he shouted “Move over!” or something, then decided to overtake us due to no reply from me.
As mentioned, the Bike Lane was right there! On the right! He should have hopped off the sidewalk and passed me in the bike lane!
I calmed the startled dog, then drove on, I wanted to give the cyclist a piece of my mind, but he had vanished!
I have a theory that should explain why cyclists ride on sidewalks instead of the bike lanes: the cyclist is not a confident rider.
Oh, bike riding children can ride the sidewalk, but this idiot was no child!
Thank you for listening!
Have a great day now!
