Trip Journal: Off site

Children/Youth camps are vastly different than adult camps!

For one thing; youth camps have activities all day! There is maybe 30 minutes downtime, then a new activity starts.

All kids, unless they are sick or committed an offence and given a time out, must be accounted for. They can’t just wonder off. They CAN tell a counsellor they want some time alone. The kid’s request would be accepted.

And, of course, kids can’t bring alcohol, smoke et al…

Adult camps CAN do these things:

– decide to not participate in an activity,

– can wonder off alone, I did that Thursday, enjoyable relaxing day!

– can bring alcohol, I can’t say I did or not…

– can go OFF Site!

Lake Joesph is an hour’s drive from Parry Sound, and there is a yearly event that takes place every Tuesday from June 18th to the end of August called Bands on the Bay.

Did I want to go? YES!

So, 10 people from camp, 5 DeafBlind and 5 Intervenors, went and were amazed my Sydney Riley!

I, using my walker, was able to get seats right by the speakers, which was soo very awesome!

Here are some photos:

During the intermission, I remarked, Sydney was pretty awesome and talented, but I think she was nervous, because she forgot her pants!

After the show, one DeafBlind person met Sydney, giving out CD and stickers. I met her as well. Very nice person!

Thank you for reading and stay tuned!
