Trip Journal: swim test

I am here on Lake Joe, in the Muskoka area of Ontario.

Being on a lake, you would expect to swim right? That is the main draw, swimming!

But, don’t change into your swimsuit that fast!

Everyone needs to pass a test before they can jump in the lake!

Everyone!

There are two areas for swimming, the area close to the beach marked by a buoyed rope; the deepest is 2 feet. After that rope the water gets deeper, up to 6 feet down, obviously there is another buoyed rope marking the end of areas where campers can swim.

Okay, the logistics are done.

Monday evening, I had to take a test to see if I could go into the “deep end”.

Now, IMHO, I am a pretty good DeafBlind swimmer, I actually outswam the lifeguard from one side of the Deep End to the other, however, when she asked me to tread water, I was flabbergasted! I couldn’t figure it out… If she had said “do a doggie paddle…” then I would have aced both tests!

Alas, I failed the test, subsequently given a yellow band declaring I was impounded to the kiddie pool.

That was Monday.

Yesterday, I put on my still wet swimsuit, went back to the Lake, walked out to the first buoyed rope, sat down, did nothing, got up, and walked back, intending to not go swimming again.

Pure and simple: it was pure ennui.

But, other things kept me busy! Swimming is not all Lake Joe has to offer!

Stay Tuned!
